This is an overview of the miscellaneous skills in EUO that neither constitute crafting or count as class skills.

Unarmed combat

If your really brave (or stupid), you may choose to only wear non-armour (eg: gi, cap, gloves) and have no weapon (or an UA-weapon) equipped. If this is the case, then you'll be fighting unarmed (and unarmoured). Think of it as fighting monk-style.

Unarmed can be just as effective as regular weapon fighting, so don't be discouraged. It's very fast, and inflicts a lot of critical hits. It is also advantageous in that you carry less armour, so you'll be able to carry more loot and walk around a little more quickly.

  • Damage Type: Bludgeoning
  • Stat Dependent Damage Optimisation: 50% str / 50% dex
  • Special Attack: QUIVERING PALM

Staves

Fighting with a staff will increase your skill in Staves. Combat with staves is just like any other melee weapon, except it is considered to be classless, so any character can develop their staves skill without penalty.

  • Damage Type: Bludgeoning
  • Stat Dependent Damage Optimisation: 50% str / 50% dex
  • Special Attack: MR CLEAVE

Meditation

Press m to meditate. You will regain HP and mana at an increased rate, depending on your skill, but you will also be blind until you move or are hit. Avoid getting hit when meditating, as you may suffer increased damage.

Fishing & Cartography

Get a fishing rod, and use it in the direction of a body of water. Sometimes you'll drag up an old boot, and rumour has it that these boots are often poison resistant. Other times, you'll drag up a sea monster. Be careful and prepare yourself for a fight when fishing.

Fishing is a great way to catch food for yourself and your pet, as well as being the most consistent method for finding treasure maps - see the section on Cartography and Treasure Hunting.

Item Lore (Item Identification)

Buy a magnifying glass from a provisioner and use (u) it on an unidentified item that is on the ground to attempt to ID it. Be sure to do your identification in a safe place where your items will not be stolen.

The skill required to ID the item with a magnifying glass is proportional to the quality or value of the item. As with most other skills, you will need 10 item lore to begin identifying basic items. Detecting a curse on an item when using a magnifying glass requires additional skill.

Taming

Taming allows players to tame monsters and animals and use them as allies in combat. Some creatures, like the undead, cannot be tamed and others can grow into something stronger.

More info on Pets and Taming here.

Healing

Healing is all about first-aid and providing accelerated recovery from wounds and other ailments. Healing uses bandages and provides progressive or gradual recovery from injuries.
