Fighter Skills
Weapon skills
There are a number weapon skills, and while anyone can use any weapon, to use it effectively you should be trained in that skill. The higher your skill with a particular weapon, the higher your attack strength will be when a weapon of that skill base is equipped.
When you find or buy weapons, their required skill is displayed with their damage and weight, so there shouldn't be any confusion as to what does what.

Tactics skill
Skill in tactics gives a boost to Attack Strength and Defence. Tactics will raise automatically when attacking with a fighter weapon skill, ie: Maces, Longswords, Polearms, Axes or Unarmed.

You cannot hide when there are players, monsters or NPCs around which can see you, or if you have a light source.
Chances for hiding and moving stealthily are greatly reduced when wearing medium and heavy armour.
Once hidden, you can attempt to backstab. You must have a shortsword or dagger equipped to pull off a backstab. Backstabbing success is determined by your stealth skill, the target's level, and for player targets, the lightness of their armour. It's very hard to BS a player wearing plate armour, for example.
