There are 8 shrines, once for each virtue. Their primary use is to level up your character on the regular server and to cure ressurection sickness. If you have passed a level, enter a shrine, stand next to the flame and meditate. You will pass your level and gain the stats associated with each shrine. In alphabetical order, they are:
